There is much you can do to keep your child’s primary teeth and adult teeth healthy and cavity-free.

Setting a Good Example

When it comes to practicing careful dental health habits, we can all set a good example for our youth.

Lasting a Lifetime: Dentistry for Children in Jacksonville

Teeth are meant to last a lifetime, which is why early dental care is so important. At Freedom Village Dental in  Jacksonville NC, we are committed to providing excellent dentistry for children.

A big part of keeping teeth and gums healthy is daily care. That means teaching your youngsters good brushing and flossing habits. It also means bringing them in for a checkup and cleaning every six months. The American Dental Association says children should have their first visit within six months of their first tooth coming in, and no later than their first birthday.

Keeping teeth and gums healthy also means having a balanced diet that is low in sugar. More and more children are showing signs of early tooth decay. It has even been called the most common chronic childhood disease. By minimizing sweets and establishing a good dental health routine, they can be limited.

A good tool for protecting teeth is dental sealants. It’s a thin protective layer of plastic material applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, where tooth decay is most prevalent. Along with brushing and flossing, sealants go a long way toward preventing cavities.

Early dental care is vital. The children’s dentistry provided by Freedom Village Dental in Jacksonville NC  helps to ensure your youngster’s teeth and gums will stay healthy throughout their lives. We also provide general and cosmetic dentistry. Make an appointment with us today.

Keeping Kids Smiling At Freedom Village Dental

Dentistry For ChildFreedom Village Dental in Jacksonville treats patients of all ages and provides pediatric dentistry. Our staff takes special care of our youngest patients to make sure they feel comfortable and safe.

We Pamper Our Youngest Patients

Having extra patience with kids is vital. We understand that going to the dentist can be a bit frightening for a child, so we make sure they are comfortable with their surroundings, and always invite mom or dad to join them in the examination room. We make sure they understand which procedures are necessary and answer their questions.

Children’s dentistry requires more than just comfort, however. We understand how children’s dentistry differs from the treatment for older patients.

The American Dental Association counsels parents to bring their little one for a checkup when their first tooth breaks through, or around one year of age. By starting regular dental visits at the toddler age and teaching correct hygiene, we can help you reinforce essential oral care habits and lifestyle choices that will produce strong and healthy teeth.

In addition to pediatric dentistry, Freedom Village Dental offers general and cosmetic dentistry. Schedule an appointment today.

Beautiful Teeth Without Breaking The Bank

affordable teeth whitening Jacksonville

At Freedom Village Dental in Jacksonville, our cosmetic dentistry patients believe that life-changing cosmetic dentistry is a valuable investment. Indeed, for most people, the value of a healthy, attractive smile cannot be measured in dollars. We recognize, however, that cosmetic dentistry is not cheap.

Do you have to spend thousands of dollars to improve your smile? Actually, no. Today’s post focuses on the most affordable cosmetic dental procedures.

Dental Bonding
In many cases, dental bonding can be used to repair a tooth that has been chipped.

When we repair a tooth with dental bonding, a pliable resin material is applied to the tooth. We expertly mold the material to create the desired shape. The resin is then hardened using a special light. After hardening, we perform any necessary trimming and shaping followed by a final polishing.

Dental bonding is commonly less expensive than porcelain veneers or dental crowns.

Tooth Whitening
Most Jacksonville people are aware that there are several different tooth whitening protocols. Freedom Village Dental dentist recommends scheduling a tooth whitening consultation to discuss your options. Even inexpensive OTC tooth bleaching systems can be misused and result in tooth sensitivity, damage to tooth enamel, and irregular coloration.

Regarding the cost of teeth whitening: if you pick an at-home system from a drugstore, you may have to buy several packages to obtain even slight whitening. In-office whitening or a take home system from our office may be more reasonably priced in the long run.

Cosmetic dentistry from Freedom Village Dental in Jacksonville doesn’t have to break the bank. We also provide pediatric dentistry. Schedule an appointment with us today.

3 Dental Dangers For Toddlers

Pumpkin Center family dentist

Hello new parents! At Freedom Village Dental in Jacksonville we know that keeping babies and toddlers safe and healthy requires constant effort. You secure them snuggly in their car seats, baby-proof your medicine cabinet and guard the stairway with a gate. You take them to your pediatrician for immunizations, check-ups and an occasional prescription for an antibiotic.

Freedom Village Dental wants to remind you about another important component of child wellness: oral health. Sadly, we see too many cases of completely preventable child cavities. You have probably received the following critical advice, but it bears repeating:

  1. Don’t put babies to bed with a bottle!
  2. Don’t allow kids to drink juice continually during the day!
  3. Prevent frequent snacking on sugary foods!

Oral health is intrinsically connected to overall physical health and normal development. If your oral hygiene is not up to par, now is the time to shape up and help your young child develop prime oral health behaviors that will serve them well throughout their life.

Freedom Village Dental recommends beginning twice-yearly dental visits, starting around age one or when the first tooth breaks through. Our friendly staff helps young patients feel comfortable and relaxed during their exams.

We can advise you on thumb sucking, dental sealants, normal child tooth development, braces, athletic tooth protection, fluoride, or any other pediatric dental issue.

In addition to children’s dentistry, Freedom Village Dental offers the full spectrum of dental services such as family dentistry and emergency dentistry

If your toddler has not yet visited the dentist, schedule an appointment ASAP by calling us at 910-716-0101.

Infancy Through Childhood: Instill Good Brushing Habits

infant dental exam Jacksonville

New parents may be surprised by the American Dental Association’s recommendations on infant oral care. Parents are advised to begin brushing their baby’s teeth as soon as the first teeth emerge. That’s when parents should also bring their youngsters in for a pediatric dentistry exam at Freedom Village Dental in Jacksonville.

Parents are encouraged to use a cloth and a smidgen of toothpaste (about the size of a grain of rice) to wipe each tooth. As more teeth come in, it’s even more crucial for the teeth to be brushed after each meal or, at least twice a day.

Once they’re ready, it is vital to pick the proper toothbrush, in order to make brushing time as pleasant as possible. A soft-bristled brush is best with a small amount of toothpaste. Infant and toddler-sized toothbrushes with a small head of bristles are useful. Also, there are circle and triangular-shaped brushes that allow your toddler to walk around with their brush with less chance of injury in case of a fall.

If your toddler doesn’t like the taste of toothpaste, brush with water for a while. The goal is to remove food bits that will create bacteria followed by plaque and then cavities.

When two teeth touch, it’s time to floss. Flossing is essential to make sure no food is lodged between the teeth. Proper flossing requires fine motor skills which most babies don’t develop before age six or seven. Parents need to assist with flossing until they are sure their child can do it effectively.

Until the child is old enough to properly brush his or her teeth, they should receive adult supervision and guidance. Instilling the proper brushing and flossing practices will reap lifelong benefits. While it may seem that supervising them is time-consuming, remember that it’s creating a daily habit that will guard their health. Also, dental expenses related to poor oral hygiene will be avoided.

Your child’s first visit to Freedom Village Dental in Jacksonville should be within six months of the first tooth appearing and no later than their first birthday. In addition to pediatric dentistry, we provide general and cosmetic dentistry for the whole family. Make an appointment today.
